Restoring Immunity with Gemmotherapy

What’s the best way to restore and support immunity?

In my experience, the answer is with gemmotherapy.

What is gemmotherapy, you ask?  Let me introduce you…

Gemmotherapy extracts are made from the emerging buds & shoots from certain trees and shrubs and are made into a macerate.  These young tissues make up the most potent part of the plant, and contains minerals, trace elements, enzymes, and meristems cells of the plant.

The meristem cells, similar to human stem cells, are the growth cells of the plant and possess incredible regenerative properties.

Gemmotherapy is a powerful healing modality because of it’s affinity for certain organ systems. Extracts also have the ability to optimize elimination, has a dynamic influence on immunity, as well as the nervous system.

Gemmotherapy is a drainage therapy and the extracts are able to simultaneously clean, nourish, and fortify the cells of the body.  Gemmotherapy is also an approved medicine in the European Union.

Factors that Influence Immunity

Before we move on, we know that there are other important factors that go into building immunity.

  1. Sleep
  2. Nutrition
  3. Movement
  4. How you handle stress

The choices you make will either bring you towards health or move you further away.

Nutrition and daily movement are choices.  Nothing just pops into our mouths or forces us to sit on the couch instead to going for a walk.  Sleep and how you handle stress are choices to a certain extent.  Going to bed at a certain time, sleep hygiene, and how we respond to situations or people are choices as well, but these can be greatly influenced and improved by working with the nervous system.

The Nervous System

I work with Gemmotherapy extracts as the primary way to restore immunity and this begins with the nervous system.

Why is it important to begin with the nervous system when we’re trying to build immunity?

Working with the brain first helps to build a foundation of emotional and physical immunity.  This helps to resolve issues at the most basic level and lay the groundwork for all healing that needs to be done.

It’s almost impossible for the body to heal if the nervous system is in a state of disharmony.  Most people’s nervous systems, especially right now, are in a constant sympathetic state.

The sympathetic state is the state of fight, flight, or freeze.  When your brain believes that you’re in danger, it releases a cascade of hormones to help you survive.   These hormones effect all of your organs and body systems, including, digestion, mood, sleep, and fertility…just to name a few.

In working with the brain, we help it get back into a parasympathetic state, resolving overwhelm and allowing the body to run efficiently so that it can get to the work of  healing.

Nervous system extracts also enhance communication between the brain and the organ systems.  When the nervous system is deranged, false messages get sent from the brain so we sometimes need to help remind organs of their proper functions.

I hope this explains the importance of the nervous system in the healing process, and why it needs to be the place to begin healing.  Building resilience is the best first step in making sure that we’re fully able to process emotions.

Weak emotional immunity leads to chronic inflammation and will effect our physical immunity.

So let’s review

We begin with the nervous system to resolve overwhelm, moving the nervous into a restful state so that body systems function effectively and healing can take place.  In those with nervous systems that are depressed, we have extracts that can simulate and ease the path for more hope and joy.

The brain and organ systems need to be communicating properly and working with the nervous system facilitates that.

The primary goal is to nurture a resilient nervous system so that it can move in and out of the different nervous system states without getting stuck.  It’s not that the sympathetic state is bad and we need to be in a parasympathetic state all the time, we just need the nervous system to have the flexibility to do what’s needed at the appropriate times.

Elimination

Once you’re stable on a nervous system extract we look at elimination.

Elimination is not a glamorous or sexy subject.  Most people don’t like to talk about it.

Your body must clean out food and metabolic waste and it does this primarily through the bowels, kidneys, and if you’re a woman, menses.

If the bowels and kidneys are not eliminating effectively, the body must turn to alternate exits in order to release inflammation and the build up of waste.

Symptoms that are indicators of poor elimination are:

  • Any discharge or congestion in the eyes, nose, ears, lungs, and skin.
  • Skin rashes or irritations, including acne, eczema, and canker/cold sores
  • Chronic coughing or throat clearing
  • Vaginal or anal discharge, mucus, warts, yeast, or rashes

Most people are simply not pooping enough.  You should have 2 stools a day, preferably in the morning and again in the afternoon or evening.  They should be formed, painless, and not urgent.

The morning BM is probably the more important.  The body systems have been cleaning over night so there’s a build up of metabolic waste that needs to move out.

The easiest way to get things moving in the morning is to have an all fruit meal shortly after waking.

The best cleansing fruits for this are:

  • Apples/pears
  • Berries
  • Citrus fruit
  • Grapes
  • Mangoes
  • Melons

You can still have your regular breakfast if you wish (wait about 15 minutes), but starting the day with just one fruit will help your body clean out the accumulated waste.

We do look at kidney function as well, but we always look at bowel function first.

Ladies, the bowels and kidneys are dependent on each other so if you suffer from painful, heavy periods, it’s an indication that your bowels and kidneys need support.

Adrenals

Once stability (not perfection) has been achieved with the nervous system and elimination, we offer support to the adrenals to continue the healing process.

As you can see, restoring immunity requires a sequential approach.  As we’ve improved communication between the brain and organs and optimized elimination, the adrenals will provide the energy your body needs to continue to restore health.  Providing this support will help us be more resilient and less susceptible to illness, as well as fortifying the adrenals so that they don’t become depleted.

I know this may seem like a lot, but it really is one simple step at a time. How much time it takes depends on your current symptoms, vitality,  level of inflammation, and your willingness to make the necessary lifestyle changes.

There’s another aspect to building immunity that I’ll tackle in Part 3 of this series, and that’s how you handle acute illnesses.

I hope this was helpful.  If you have questions or would like to schedule a free chat with me to discuss your personal needs, please feel free to contact me.
