Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease with Homeopathy

HFM2-Blog

The first half of 2016 has been quite an eventful year on many fronts.  Here at my home, we’ve had quite the round of medical issues!  I dealt with a horrible sinus infection, spring allergies, a bout of hand, foot, and mouth disease, and we followed all of that up with constipation with one of my kiddos!  Whew!  I used homeopathy for all of it and I will be doing future blogs on the other issues, but today I’ll delve into how I handled the hand, foot, and mouth virus.

If you’re not familiar with this enterovirus you can read a brief description from WebMD here.  My two boys and I all came down with it, but my youngest had it the worst so I’ll be sharing what I did with him.

It all started with a fever that lasted one day.  The fever broke the next day and he developed a rash on his back and torso.  I didn’t think anything of it at first, post fever rashes are common and usually subside on their own.  Those  rashes started disappearing, but then he started getting a rash on his feet.  He complained that his feet were itchy and burning.  He was rubbing them against the floor trying to get relief and it was worse from heat and better with cold.  I gave him a dose of Urtica Urens 30C and it helped enough that he was able to sleep through the night without discomfort.  But the rash continued to spread to his hands, elbows, and his throat hurt when he swallowed.  He had big blisters on his elbows.

I didn’t know what I was dealing with and I needed to find out so I knew how contagious this was and if I needed to keep my daughter home from school since she’d been exposed.  (She didn’t get it, thank goodness!)  I contacted our pediatrician’s office and they suggested that it sounded like hand, foot, and mouth.  After looking up some information and finding pictures of the rashes, I knew they were right.

All of my kiddos are under the care of a homeopath for chronic disease issues so there’s very little that goes on in my house that our homeopath is unaware of.  After consulting with her we decided to give Rhus Tox 30C.  The blisters on his elbows started drying up overnight!  Several more doses over the next week moved things along beautifully!

As I was writing this, homeopath Joette Calabrese also put out a blog post on remedies for Hand, Foot, and Mouth.  I’m linking that post here because it may be of interest and she highlights different remedies than I used.

I hope this is helpful!

Bene vale!
